Mailchimp "merge tags" and Squarespace Form Input areas don't match...

Ok, so not sure how to ask this as Im not sure if there is an easy answer for it. I think the easiest "fix" would be for Squarespace to build in a compatible MailChimp "merge tag" into the form builder so we can give each element a tag that matches the fields in Mailchimp.

I have been working on setting up a Mailchimp List with Squarespace Form submissions based on an existing populated form and what I have realized is if you try and edit the names of the input areas in Squarespace and or Mailchimp you end up getting double information in your final list on Mailchimp.

It has to do with the way Squarespace names its input areas vs how Mailchimp handles it.

On the Mailchimp side it clearly shows what you should use as you "tag" for the form but since squarespace does not allow you to edit this "merge tag" info in the form builder and uses its own naming system based on what kind of input area it is (text vs select, etc...) at least when translated into mailchimp.

This would be not so much of a problem since Mailchimp allows you to change what the tag should be so it matches but when you look at the code that Squarespace generates the only thing you get for the different input areas is a yui number which is way to long to input into Mailchimp "tag" area.

Example:

<label class="title" for="select-yui_3_10_1_1_1377985894149_102129-field">ABCRA Member</label>

<select name="select-yui_3_10_1_1_1377985894149_102129-field">

                    <option value="Yes">Yes</option>

                    <option value="No">No</option>

                </select>
              </div>

The only work around seems to be this:

Build the form in Squarespace exactly the way you want it, Create a empty list in Mailchimp, Submit a entry from your form so that it poulates the Mailchimp list. Never change the order of anything in your form as it will no longer match the naming in Mailchimp?

does anyone have a better solution???
