Index page configuration: Undefined template error

Hi all,

I have followed verbatim, the directions on this page:

I have set up the following:

index.page with:

<squarespace:index navigationId="indexNav" />

index.page.conf with:

{ "title": "Index Page", "description": "This page is automatically populated with galleries." }

And template.conf with:

{ "title" : "Index", "name" : "indexNav" }

As predicted, I'm seeing the index nav on the backend. However, two things are happening:

I'm getting an error on my index page (front-end):

[Undefined template: This tag requires a template parameter.]

And I'm unable to drag pages into the index to gain access to their collections.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I would upload screenshots, which would help here, but I need karma first. :/
