IE8 Incompatibility Banner Code - Troubleshooting

Hello,

My business partner and I built a website for a client using SquareSpace. We found out later that it is not compatible with Internet Explorer 8, which we're not thrilled about, but we addressed the incompatibility issue with the client and received the go-ahead to simply add a banner that informs IE8 users that they are not seeing the full website and they need to upgrade their browser. We got a code for this from browser-update.org and added it to the header box on the "code injection" tab.

Unfortunately, the code is not working. We desperately need to get this resolved, so we were hoping one of you would have enough coding experience that you could help us get this to work. I'm copying and pasting the code here:

< script type="text/javascript"> var $buoop = {vs:{i:8,f:15,o:,s:4,n:9}} $buoop.ol = window.onload; window.onload=function(){ try {if ($buoop.ol) $buoop.ol();}catch (e) {} var e = document.createElement("script"); e.setAttribute("type", "text/javascript"); e.setAttribute("src", "http://browser-update.org/update.js"); document.body.appendChild(e); } </script>

FYI, I added a space between the first < and the "script" so that the code would show up in this box. Otherwise, it was hidden from the preview.

Does anyone have any ideas? If it helps, we are using the Adirondack template.

Thank you!
